It’s been suspiciously quiet of late on the murderous white goods front, but confirmation that your kitchen is still out to get you comes in the form of a chilling exploding fridge attack in South Africa. According to the Pretoria Times, Adrian Coetzee, of Silver Lakes, Pretoria, “narrowly escaped death” on Wednesday when the 7am blast “ripped through his kitchen, blowing food and shrapnel from his four-month-old fridge across the room”.

Our “strog” deliverer
Gayle’s just bought Chris Tomlin’s “See The Morning” album, specifically for his song, “Everlasting God”. We first heard “Everlasting God” in the Vineyard in South Africa. Due to a typo on the song lyrics system, the second line of the chorus was “… our hope, our strog deliverer”. I remember remarking on it the first time I saw it, and sharing a quiet chuckle with the folks seated near me.
Now we’re listening to the song here on the other side of the world, and remembering the “Sundowner” home group (most of whom were in the worship team), with fondness. Specifically, Charles Webster, since Gayle loves the way he plays this particular song

I spent two and a half hours this afternoon at the Randburg Department of Home Affairs, simply to collect my new temporary passport. As I walked in, I noticed the glossy poster on the wall, proudly displaying the department seal, and boldly proclaiming their vision: “Providing a world class service”
I wait for 15 minutes in the queue for the collections counter, and when I arrive at the front, I noticed a handwritten note on an A4 page, which said “Sorry… Computer’s are offline”. It looked as if it had been there for a while. I was told that my passport would be ready within 10 minutes, and pointed to a metal bench against the wall, to wait.
